Published by: We Get Around Network | YouTube Can a consumer 360 camera hold up on Realsee and Matterport? A WGAN forum member asked how the Insta360 compares to Ricoh, so I took the Ricoh Theta Z1, the Ricoh Theta X, and the Insta360 X5 to the same empty 1,700 sq ft house and scanned it with each one. Every camera ran straight out of the box with no custom settings and no firmware updates, under similar lighting, so the comparison is as close to apples to apples as I could make it. The first round is on Realsee. I walk through connecting each camera over Wi-Fi (on the Z1, the password is the last eight digits on the bottom of the camera, numbers only), then use the same method on every pass: start at the front door, shoot intersection points and both sides of every doorway, cover square rooms with four corners and a center shot, and grab closets with the door open so they can be hidden later. The Theta Z1 took about 33 minutes for 58 scans, with one manual alignment and a couple of app relaunches. The Theta X finished 59 scans in about 25 minutes with noticeably faster downloads and alignment, though windows looked blown out in the preview. The Insta360 X5 came in at 57 scans with a very HDR-looking preview, and it had no trouble in the bedroom that always gives me alignment issues in this house. Then I rescanned the house in the Matterport app with the same cameras. Matterport needs you to mark windows on site, which is easy to forget, while Realsee does not require trimming anything. A center-of-room pass took about 17 minutes before I went back for the corners, and a few scans needed manual placement. Two field tips that held across every camera: stay close to the camera so the 360 image transfers faster, and watch for mirrors, which threw off alignment in the primary closet. My one wish for both apps is an upload progress bar like Zillow shows in its 3D tour capture. My honest take: these cameras make sense if you work in a smaller market or are not ready to spend more on capture hardware, but the tours fall short next to dedicated systems. For client work I use a Matterport Pro3 for Matterport, a Realsee Galois P4 for Realsee, a Giraffe360 Pro for Giraffe360, and an iGUIDE PLANIX for iGUIDE. Ricoh sent me the Z1 and the X free of charge for feedback and content, with no say in what I publish. | Not sure if you are able to hide the utility closet scan point in the "Realsee" tour as it creates a barrier | ||

| @TomSparks It’s navigable now ~ something to be aware of in that platform as well as Matterport. If a door needs to be open to capture a space for 1 reason or another I will typically shoot it with the door at a 45 or so |

| @lilnitsch Good tip, I sometimes will do the 45 degree, but obviously didn't in this case. I was more focused on getting 6 tours done in the limited time I had. But I agree, 45 degress is best. | ||
