To assist in the design of a new children’s section at the Kent Library in Washington, we developed a VR experience that combines real-world captures with 3D assets. By integrating 3D Gaussian Splatting data from an XGRIDS PortalCam with 3D meshes in Unity, we created a spatial representation of the planned area.

The primary objective is to test scale and accessibility. Within the VR environment, users can toggle their viewpoint height to simulate a toddler’s perspective, identifying potential issues that may not be apparent in traditional 2D site plans.

Special thanks to Johnston Architects, Seattle WA and Maria Sanchez of the Bellevue College XR Lab for the collaboration on this project.

@Tosolini

Great idea on setting up a choice of heights for children's and adult's perspectives.

I can see how this functionality could be used by architectural firms for the purpose of play testing designs from different points of view. Even between average women's and men's height's or different nationalities averages.

@Meidansha Thanks! VR really does help to visualize a space before it's being furnished.
