A collection of 3D scans captured during my recent visit to Trieste, Italy.

I used the XGRIDS PortalCam to capture a variety of environments, testing the handheld capabilities in different lighting conditions, from the night lights of Piazza Unità to tight spaces inside a ship's engine room.

@Tosolini The quality of these are amazing! i'm impressed... it's only going to get better too!

thanks for sharing... did anyone stare at you crazy as you walked through capturing the spaces?

how long did it take to capture the tugboat engine room?

@Tosolini Great job,

Can I also export high-quality 360 panoramas from these materials obtained from XGrids?

How much does the XGrids software cost?

Is it possible to perform Gauss processing on my own server/computer with the appropriate VR memory/graphics? And if so, how much does it cost? Can I use this software offline?

Is the scanner you're using the best device for this type of work using their equipment? I've seen several devices on their website, but I don't understand which ones are suitable for the type of work you're showing?

For the past six months, I've been sending Xgrids emails asking for a quote for a scanner/camera. No one has ever replied! Does the company even support its customers and get in touch, and if you already have their equipment, is there any chance of getting support? Could you provide contact information for someone in Europe who sells such a device?

Is it possible to send me a raw PLY Gauss file for testing? For example this one: https://superspl.at/view?id=c747d419

@TomSparks Thanks! The tugboat took 26 mins of scanning in total. I agree with you that this technology can only get better. I feel the navigation is still tricky and not very friendly to new users. MP in this sense is easier to use.

@JamesG Glad you like it!

@Realwalk3D To answer your questions:
- I'm not aware of a simple method to extract 360s from a 3DGS model. Technically, you could do it, but it may require some work. This is a good challenge for an AI :-)
- The XGRIDS PortalCam is the hardware I purchased and it's specialized in 3DGS only. It costs $5K and comes with the first year of their proprietary processing software (called LCC - Lixel Cyber Color) included. After the first year, the subscription is $1500 / year
- You can process the PortalCam raw data to PLY on your own PC offline. I don't have a GPU so I opted for their cloud solution. There is no escaping from paying their subscription if you want to use their scanners
- The PortalCam is focused on visual outcomes first, and its precision is inferior than its more expensive siblings (K1 and L2). Those scanners have longer lidar range and higher precision, better for surveys.
- If you are looking for local assistance, I think XGRIDS relies on international partners:
https://xgrids.com/intl/agent It's weird that they don't answer inquiries from potential customers
- Here is the PLY of the LifeTech ITS Academy:

@Tosolini
Thank you so much for the quick response and the link to the example!

This is truly great and very detailed material!

I managed to contact the Xgrid distributor! Just a moment ago!

Actually, I was contacted by a company that sells other scanners just now, and they offered me something completely different, and from the word go, it turned out they also sell Xgrid .

It turns out that the basic cloud license, which currently costs $1,500 from the second year onwards, is SUPPOSED TO BE FREE and available to every scanner owner.

I'm only interested in Gauss splatting, and I'm wondering if the model you have gives the best visual results, or if the other scanners you mentioned give better results?
I have a fairly powerful computer, so I think I'll be processing these projects myself.

I also need 360 panoramas. So I'm wondering if it's possible to create a simple Python code/tool that would rotate a Gaussian model and take visual data from a project to build a 360 panorama using screenshots, then combine them into a 360 panorama?

Now I'm just concerned about what the device itself offers.

I've seen the projects you've shared, and they're usually small locations.

What if I want to create the entire Big Castle? How does this device perform in multi-story buildings? For example, residential buildings—villas, apartment buildings, or townhouses?

The seller also told me that you shouldn't shoot sequences longer than 20 minutes to achieve the highest quality.
So, for example, the object you showed here in the example—it's still a small space and on the edge of Gaussian merging capabilities!

I wonder if many such objects can be sensibly combined into one larger object in a relatively simple way?

There is something wrong with "Tugboat Bat engine room" It starts ok, doing animation but when I stop it and try to bring it closer to explore from a floor level it goes to total back screen. I am not even reaching the floor level, just too short scrolls of a mouse wheel and after a bit of zooming in with that it goes black. It does not happen with at least other two I've tried.

@wingman I tried to repro your issue but the SuperSplat viewer for the tugboat seems to be working fine for me. Something to try is navigating the model using WASD keys. Also if it goes all black, I wonder if the camera ends up outside of the model for some reason. For that, the keys F and R will reframe the model.

@realwalk3D I think the PortalCam might not be the ideal device for very large spaces. For that, the XGRIDS K1 and L2 are probably best suited. This is a good question for the XGRIDS community on Facebook, where other scanner owners can share their experiences. Sometimes renting a unit before purchasing it can help make a decision.
