I'm starting a new thread, since it may help readers evaluate this new device. Here are my latest scans:

Pottery Barn
https://superspl.at/view?id=d575e62d

Microsoft Redwest campus
https://superspl.at/view?id=c84335ae

Playground
https://superspl.at/view?id=1702ecc4

Fall is in the air
https://superspl.at/view?id=0df1b637

All scans were performed between 4-8 mins. I reconstructed the 3DGS on the XGRIDS LCC Cloud (think MP). Their local processing software, called LCC Studios, requires a PC + NVidia and has more settings. Having a Mac, I'll have to find a solution, possibly a Virtual Machine in the cloud.

Workflow:
- Download raw files from PortalCam
- Upload raw files to XGRIDS LCC Cloud (I'm on a trial, not sure what it'll cost once out of beta)
- After an hour or so, download PLY and import it into SuperSplat Editor for clean up
- Publish to SuperSplat gallery (from inside the editor)
- Export a local copy in .splat version for my archives

@dansmigrod if this format becomes popular, I'd suggest to create a special tag embed them in the blog.

@Tosolini Thanks for sharing! How large a space do you think is possible with PortalCam and do you have idea how much it differs from its other SLAM lidars that have 3DGS ?

@aerialpixels I don't have a definite answer for you. XGRIDS positions the PortalCam for higher visual clarity but for smaller areas than its other scanners like the K1 and L2.
The PortalCam lidar has a shorter reach and you need to walk a bit slower. So it's definitely a device that prioritizes image quality over precision. They don't say it explicitly, but I think they go after MP.

@Tosolini Thanks for the reply.
I was looking at videos and it stated that Portalcam can output USDZ and OBJ?
how do the 3d files look like? I dont expect high res, but are they any good?

@aerialpixels I don't have all the answers yet on this new device. But here is a start.

I tried to convert a 3DGS PLY to USDZ using one of the free converters online and I only got the point cloud, no colors or anything. The 3DGS PLY contains more information than traditional PLY, and normal PLY converters don't do a good job.

I saw that Kiri Engine can export to OBJ, but that's a different tool.

There is also 3DGS-To-PC but it looks complicated.

Not sure about your use case for conversion, but I assume you are looking to combine aerial views with terrestrial scans?
