I have my camera and the recommended manfrotto 290 series and the quick release clamp. I am trying to test the camera out...I don't know if I'm missing a piece for the top of tripod but I can't figure out how to attach the quick release and camera to the tripod. Any insight would be so appreciated! Thanks

So did your tripod come with a quick release? It needs to be an Arca Swiss style quick release for it to work with the quick release plate on the bottom of the Matterport. The Sunwayfoto MAC-14 60mm that CarlosFHdz recommended should work fine as a less expensive alternative to the bases recommended by Matterport (Kirk QRC 2.5 Quick Release Clamp for Arca-Type Plates - 2.5" Base, and the Really Right Stuff Pro: 60mm Screw-knob clamp
)

this is what the top of my tripod looks like. Is all I need to buy the quick release? Or am I missing something else? Thanks!

What I used is the following http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000JLK5PU/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item
and added 2 x 3/8 washers which allow the quick release plate just to clear the bottom plate. There are copy cat QR plates for half the price but I chose to go with the Manfrotto. I hope this is helpful.

I bought the recommended quick release as well as a Manfrotto 190XPRO3. The quick release doesn't clear the bottom plate on mine. I'm just not using a quick release and being gentle when attaching the Matterport so as to not overtighten.

I cannot say better things about the 190XPRO3. It's my third Manfrotto and the previous, cheaper one, is falling apart and is complete crap. You really get what you pay for! The 190XPRO3 also can go REALLY high, which I just used for some night pool photography with long exposures -- didn't need a ladder

You're not alone. In fact, I need to return the quick release clamp to Amazon.

Gary -- I don't want to add washers -- that solution sounds awesome; but I'd rather buy something that works out of the box. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You need to buy an Arca Swiss type quick release which can be screwed on to the threaded post which protrudes from the middle of the tripod plate and is covered by the black thread protector shown in the photo.

Metroplex the 2 washers are in place of a $15.00 Manfrotto adapter which is what Manfrotto recommend as they admit that the top plate on their tripod was produced just 3mm to big so they have this small adapter which does the exact same thing as the 2 washers.
