Very large Matterport scan - options?5862

virtuallyreal private msg quote post Address this user
Hi there

I may have a large scan coming up. Multiple floors and large rooms.

I suspect it will exceed 200 scans, but difficult to know for sure.

Could I continue to scan in the capture app until I finished - let's say at 400 scans - and then duplicate the model and delete 50% of it from each copy?

That way, I would preserve the chance for the ideal which is a single scan but if it turns out that the scan is too big to process I can then split it..

thanks in advance!

I just scanned a hotel this week using the same philosophy. I scanned the parts they wanted (about 250 scans) on one model. In future I can then split the scan into smaller chunks for them if they want individual models of the bedrooms etc. It rendered no problem with 250 and I have the option to go back and add more parts of the hotel to the model in future if they want.

Hey @virtuallyreal-
This question has been asked a ton of times over the years- if you type very large scan into the search bar on the top left, you can see there are many results to choose from.

You do have the right idea though, just be sure to save at 200, and then I do every 25-50 scans after that as I have had it crash on me and lose the data that wasn't saved... which really sucks

Hi guys,

Thanks for the link (and instructions on how to use the forum)

I've had a little read. So to be clear the safe course is to...

- Scan the whole venue
- When you hit 200 scans, duplicate the space
- Continue scanning in this new copy
- Repeat every 50 scans or so
- Upload
- Cross fingers

- If it doesn't complete, consider removing some scan positions

or

- Duplicate the model and delete 50% of it from each copy
- Link via Mattertag
