Has anyone had problems with walls appearing where they shouldn't, blocking access? I think this is directly related to the problem I was asking about in my earlier thread.

It seems the problem scan points I was having are in fact hidden behind erroneous walls. The only conclusion I can come to is, again, sunlight is playing havoc with scans.

Has anyone had this problem?

Julian again this is a problem that MP should be addressing and you should of had an alignment error and were forced to re-shoot the shot which obviously the capture did not do. Again MP need to correct these issues ASAP or allow us all to go back to an earlier version of the capture app that did not have these issues.

I've had the same problem lately. An invisible wall appeared in the worst possible place, the kitchen. So I went back to the property to rescan the kitchen. Strangely, it didn't fix the issue so I had to rescan the entire house. Very frustrating.

@GarySnyder sounds like this is a problem directly related to the last update? This kind of unexplained problem will cause MP users to just stop using the device, and can bury a startup company like MP. Not good.

@falconshakka Unfortunately I can't share this link yet as the client may not be using this scan at all. Ill wait and see if this gets used in the marketing of the property, then I will definitely post the link if it all goes ahead.

@RenderingSpace Extremely frustrating, as going out and re-scanning means time and money. We are thinking of going back to rescan that one area, but if what you say is correct, it might have to be the whole floor? that would truly suck. Do you think this could be related to direct sunlight or reflections?

Im having the same problem.. as per my current thread with invisible walls.. here is another example of a property done today.

You can see from the dollhouse view this wall in teh middle of the carpet???

Any thoughts as this is disrupting business?

This is an issue we are also experiencing.

We have re scanned the area twice and now the model is not generating at all. That being said are these multi-floor properties? I ask as I have noticed that usually when a wall appears randomly there is on another floor nearby a mirror/window marked.

Hi guys,
I wrote to MP support and got this back from them:

------
Hello Julian,

No rescanning should be required. It looks like this is associated with a recent software issues where some markings are passing through floors. Engineering is already hard at work on this issue with a resolution coming in the very near future (could be as early as later this week). In the mean time i suspect we can address the issue for this model by removing the marking from above (or below) the points where the undesired walls are appearing and reuploading.

Regards,

Bob

---

I would suggest contacting them, as it sounds like they can take the walls out from their end. Until the next update, we shall have to cross fingers and make do by the look of it

Removing the markings of Windows/Mirrors will cause additional issues won't it?

quick question ...did you by any chance noticed anything different in the preview scan on the IPad, anything odd that would maybe alert you that the scan may have failed

I haven't run across walls appearing in my final build
but I have noticed at times in front of windows, the preview scan would look incomplete, normally I would reposition the camera to capture the same are and then it would work fine

So what I am asking is, could their have been some clue that the scan could be off is some way or did everything in the preview scan looked fine on the Ipad

is their anyway that we could see a screen shot of the problem area scan point on the IPad

I have found that the preview in the iPad app to not be a good guide, at times it can look terrible yet produce a great result. Other times it has looked great in the iPad app but then the final result has been all sorts of terrible.

I have another scan right now, it looks great in the iPad app but fails completely to generate.

so for this scan you had good coverage of the space no scanning errors and when you uploaded the file it didn't work

is their anyway we can see a snap shot of the ipad preview

it can't be just random,

their has to be a pattern or it's going to be a shot in the Dark each time we do a job

We have to figure this out

You can see the random walls marked as solid red lines in the attached image.

it looks like the camera is confused with the wall that extends
down the stairs...what happens when you deactivate scan point 87

and for the elevator its a box with mirrors, I would imagine that will cause problems...you will have rays bouncing everywhere

the camera cant differentiate a wall from a ceiling, not enough difference
in the scan for the camera to know what is what...did you try putting
something in front of the mirrors like a plant or something

I noticed when you go to the top floor you have the elevator door closed but when I point in the window I can get the scan point on the next floor, if i click on it a jump into the elevator on the 2nd floor

is it possible that the scan point for the second floor elevator is not part of the second
floor

Matterport Bob has given us some more info on how to potentially remove the random walls.

"An easy way to determine the marking which is causing the issue is to stand in front of the wall and use the multifloor icon to move between floors. If you appear in front on a mirror or window on one of the other floors, the associated marking is likely the one causing the issue and is the one that should be removed."

Then I guess the trick is to remove that marking and upload again. I havent tried this yet, so cant guarantee it works.

So went and re shot the property we were having this issue with, its now actually worse than before.

There are a slew of rooms where its just suddenly a wall instead of a open doorway.

There are no windows marked above these locations either.

I had a quick look, just checking did you didnt place windows on level4?

Yeah my bad, there were windows marked.

There is also a mirror on the floor above another random wall.

I removed a slew of windows and mirrors and in this upload I only ended up with 2 misplaced scan points from floor 2 being placed on floor 1 and one random wall at the top of the stairs on floor 2.

I really wish matterport would obey our floor markings or allow us to adjust them in the workshop.

Do we know why mirrors/window markings are causing issues?
