While in San Francisco for Inman Connect San Francisco, I jumped on a Cable Car to see how the Ricoh Theta S would do.

Ricoh Theta S video (3rd generation camera) will likely improve when Ricoh (likely) introduces the 4th generation Ricoh Theta in November 2016.

We got this Camera for the 360º photo spheres. The video is (kinda) of a bonus.

What do you think?

Best,

Dan

@Chankane

Do you mean 360º photo spheres or 360º video (like the one above)?

@Chankane

Get a Cable Car add some dolly tracks and you're good to go ...

Okay, not the answer you were looking for.

Two ideas:

1. Mount a Ricoh Theta S to a hat/helmut and record while you do a walk-through
2. Use a Ricoh Theta S plus a selfie pole and record while you do a walk-through

This week, I will post a selfie pole video I shot on Fisherman's Warf. It's a walking tour (though I did not narrate it, I could have. Surprisingly, it's (somewhat smooth).

In a related post, a Member suggests adding a gyro at the bottom of a selfie pole.

Any of the above work for you?

All,

Other thoughts about doing a 360º video walk through?

Best,

Dan

@DanSmigrod Interesting video. Did you get questions for the other travelers seeking info about 'what are your doing?' or did anyone comments about privacy issues?

@Noel

When I use the Ricoh Theta S, I do not get any questions from anybody. Most just think it is a microphone.

One of the reasons that I like the Ricoh Theta S is that it is small and doesn't spark discussion.

Most people love having their photo taken. Maybe twice in my life, I got no photos please.

When I use the Panono - about the size of a grapefruit - it calls attention and invites discussion. That can be good or bad. While traveling in SF, I went to dinner and sat at the bar. I used the Panono to create an instant party and everyone had fun (and asked for me to email them the link; which I did).

Everyone I approached at this park in SF to take 360ºs with the Panono were into it.

Same with the Ricoh Theta S.

All my friends tolerate my 360ºs at dinner, including my recent b-day.

Best,

Dan
