Is anyone using any 3dmaker Pro hand held scanners? I hear a lot of what you can do but don’t see a lot of actual usage of these units as a useful tool. I see a few projects posted but nothing as a complete project. If you do would you share. I see they are about to release the Owl a tripod mounted scanner. Just trying to get input on ones thoughts that had bought the hand held units, likes and dislikes?

I'll just put my two cents in. I owned the Eagle Max SLAM scanner. I think the device itself was be okay, considering the price. The problem was that they sold the scanner while the software was not even in a state that I would call beta. They had a show reel showing what this device could do. They showed a really impressive Gaussian Splat animation. My personal opinion is that this showreel is impossible to produce with this scanner. End of story: I sold it. The point cloud captured with the EAGLE Max was pretty good. There are many scanners out there using exactly the same laser unit. The main difference is the software delivered with the device. If I would buy a slam scanner again, I would choose a different brand. To make this clear: this does not mean that their products are not good. This is just an expression of my personal disappointment. If they made the software better (as far as I know, they made good progress), this is a good product taking the price into account. If you have a chance to get test datasets from different scanners and the possibility to process these datasets in the software the manufacturer offers, you should do it. Concerning their newly presented terrestrial laser scanners, I don't want to guess. Obviously, they prepare a complete line of low-budget terrestrial scanners. Maybe these are great devices. We'll see. I always need to compare new devices to existing ones to get an idea of the new products. The lower end of TLS devices is a Leica BLK360 for me. If the scan is significantly worse than the output of a BLK360, a new scanner does not make too much sense for me. I know this is a completely different price range, but we have to define somehow what the lower end of expectations for a laser scan is. This is all just my personal experience and opinion.

@SvenExenberger I appreciate the input. Actual use is important to me, there’s been too many videos to hype up the product, but reading threads like you pointed out, maybe great tool but no software makes it useless. I will wait to see on the new scanner.
