My general rule of thumb for agents and clients is that it takes approximately 30–45 minutes per 1,000 sq ft to fully capture a home, though pets, people, and occupied spaces can sometimes add complexity. Within that timeframe, I can typically complete traditional still photography, Matterport, Zillow 3D, and a walkthrough video.

Personally, I haven’t been able to justify switching to the Giraffe system. I already own multiple Matterport cameras and usually carry two with me, which makes it easy to hot-swap cameras if I run into battery or mechanical issues. From a cost perspective, Matterport is also currently more affordable for me, especially since I’m still on a legacy/classic plan.

In my market, I really haven’t seen much adoption of Giraffe tours. The two dominant platforms continue to be Zillow and Matterport. From the limited exposure I’ve had to Giraffe, the tour navigation has felt somewhat inconsistent at times, with occasional issues like jumping through walls or awkward transitions.

For me to seriously consider making a switch, the pricing and overall value proposition would need to be significantly stronger. At this point, I personally don’t see a meaningful advantage over the systems I’m already using, at least not in a way that would improve or benefit my current business model.

Really appreciate the thoughtful breakdown, @lilnitsch - it's always good to hear what's working for people, as Giraffe isn't going to be the ideal fit for everyone's workflow.

I think a lot of what you’re saying is fair. Once you’ve built something that works operationally and financially, there has to be a pretty compelling reason to move away from that ecosystem.

I’d agree that Giraffe capture is a little different workflow-wise, particularly if you’re aiming to get the most out of things like the Gaussian Splat videos where extra scan density matters. It’s probably not the fastest “basic tour only” workflow on the market, and I don’t think pretending otherwise helps anyone.

Where I think the capture time starts to make financial sense for users is when you look beyond the standard tour/floor plan comparison and more at the wider media output and automation side of things. A lot of photographers we speak to are using it less as a direct MP replacement and more as a way to expand what they can package and deliver from a single visit.

The navigation point is useful feedback too. We’ve had a lot of conversations internally around tour movement and spatial transitions, and we do have a few updates in the works that you'll see here on WGAN in the coming months.

I really appreciate the thoughtful response and transparency. Honestly, I think discussions like this are healthy for the industry because every photographer’s workflow, market, and client expectations are a little different.

I completely understand where Giraffe may start making more sense when you look at the broader media output and automation side rather than viewing it strictly as a direct Matterport replacement. That’s probably the most compelling angle from my perspective as well.

For me personally, a big part of my workflow comes down to reliability and speed in the field. I’m often stacking multiple properties in a day across North Idaho and Eastern Washington, so hardware consistency, battery life, and operational redundancy matter a lot. One thing I’ve appreciated with the Matterport ecosystem is that it has proven to be very dependable for me over time, and because I carry multiple cameras, I can quickly swap hardware if I run into a dead battery or an issue mid-shoot without really slowing production down.

That reliability piece becomes especially important on larger homes, rural properties, or long capture days where downtime can really throw off scheduling. Once you build an efficient workflow around that, it’s hard to move away from unless the upside is very clear financially or operationally.

Another consideration for me is the growing vertical integration happening with some of the larger real estate portals. We’re starting to see major platforms continue pushing their own native or preferred 360 tour ecosystems, and that definitely factors into long-term workflow decisions as well. In my market especially, Zillow and Matterport still carry a lot of consumer recognition and agent familiarity, so there’s value in staying aligned with the platforms buyers are already interacting with regularly.

That said, I definitely appreciate the invite and would be interested in seeing some of the newer developments at some point. I’m always curious to see where the technology is headed, especially if the navigation and workflow side continues to evolve.

@lilnitsch absolutely agree it’s healthy. There’s no “right” way of doing things in this industry, and there are a lot of different ways to build a successful workflow depending on market, volume, territory, client expectations and almost endless nuanced factors that matter to the individual.

When you’re stacking multiple shoots a day across large territories, reliability and operational rhythm become just as important as image quality or feature sets.

The portal point is a really interesting one too. I think we’re going to keep seeing more vertical integration across the industry, which makes long-term workflow decisions a lot more strategic than just “which tour looks best.” Brand recognition and agent familiarity absolutely matter. We're certainly working on more integrations as a priority as we look to meet that need.

What’s been interesting from our side is seeing some photographers use Giraffe alongside existing systems rather than replacing everything overnight. Especially where they want to offer more marketing-focused deliverables, AI video, property sites, or automated content generation without adding extra editing time into the day.

Either way, I appreciate the balanced perspective. Conversations like this are genuinely useful because they reflect the realities of how people are actually running businesses in the field rather than just comparing spec sheets.
