Dear All,

I just had a week to forget.

I bought my PRO3 about two and a half years ago, and for the first time ever last Saturday in Portugal, while doing a job on a top of an exterior stairs a gust of wind took my PRO3 and tripod down the stairs, and the camera metal case was pretty dented, (see pictures attached) fortunately the lens were not affected and I has I was almost finishing the job decided to carry on with the camera and pray to not be misaligned.

I started getting a lot of errors "Camera not stable...do you want to keep the scan or delete it", to which I always told the App to keep the scan. I could feel that the camera was not as adjusted to the tripod mount as before and therefore the error.

Did a bedroom that was missing with it, and for the save also did it with my PRO2 just in case, (this seemed to be a good option as the PRO3 job when came down was misaligned).

To finish the job I still had to do the reception of the Hotel and two event rooms and did not had time to also back them up with my PRO2 so I decided just to them with my "possible damaged" PRO3 has at this point my bedroom job had not come down yet, so I was not aware of the misalignments.

Luckily when the jobs from the reception and two event rooms came down, there were no misalignments to be found.

So I am not sure if the camera has an auto alignment function that fixes itself after a few scans and that is why I got away with it.

Contacted Matterport and Matterfix and was told that due to the dents on the box, probably the camera was off balance and could give misalignments, so the best thing would be to send to them and recalibrate and do a full check over.

Next day I was travelling to London, UK to finish another Hotel job, so today Sunday I went there with my "damaged" PRO3 hoping for the best, so I could finish that job before I send the camera to be fixed.

Cutting a long story short Today while on the veranda of the 11th Floor of the hotel (do not ask me how, as I tested the camera position and balance before I did a scan on the edge of the varanda) and for my astonishment the camera just fall with the tripod 11 Floors down, ending fortunately on the top of the a protection roof above the Hotel entrance, missing people and cars parked bellow.

So with all the bad luck, I do feel like the luckiest person alive today, as no one was killed or even hurt and there was no damage to any cars below.

I struggle with money every month at this point, I still can not make ends meet with my 3D Scans (but it is getting better), but today I can say it was only a camera that I lost nothing else, and that is a big relief, and I feel like the luckiest person alive.

I would like to remind everyone how important it is to have insurance, not only for your business and equipment but also for claims and accidents against others when you are working.

Also I would like to say that the PRO3 camera is a really strong camera, after the first fall, it keep delivering, and today after following 11 floors, the lens seams not have been affected, the back of the case come out of the case, and the tripod mount broke, (see attached photos), obviously I do not know what kind of internal damages it has (I do ear something loose inside), but I am expecting to be a total lost and unrepaired, but with Mike from Matterfix you never know.

So Mike, if you read this post, please get in contact with me as I have another job in a couple of weeks and would like some advice.

Thank you for reading this long post, but I hope that my bad luck and good luck, can help colleagues in realising what they can do to avoid and protect themselves for cases like this.

Hi Pedro - It will be no problem to fix your Pro3! It probably won’t be cheap though! We have a maximum repair price of $1600 (I believe that is it and I’ll confirm tomorrow). So you’d be looking at $1600 + return shipping max, and it could be less🤞🤞Matterport does have authorized repair partners in Spain and Poland now, so you might want to check with them as I don’t know their pricing and policies. What’s a good email for you? Regards - Mike

Hi @Pedrotex69
So sorry to hear about your experiences.
Did the tripod collapse?
I've had dealings with the EU repair shop, so PM me if you want to discuss.
Mike's prices are very good; be prepared for a larger bill here in Europe.
Oliver
