| Video: Matterport Announces Side By Side Comparisons | In Beta | 8 January 26 Summary Hey everyone, I just found a new side-by-side comparison feature inside my Matterport account under the Settings menu. This feature is built to let me (and other users) view and navigate multiple 3D space models at the same time with synchronized movement. So if I move through one model, the other model follows the same path, making it super easy to compare different versions of the same location. Right now it’s in private beta. It supports linking two or more scanned spaces as long as they’re aligned to the same coordinate system, and it can generate a share link so people can explore the models side-by-side. Key Features and Uses Synchronized Side-by-Side Viewing: I can navigate one model and the other model mirrors the same movement. Multiple Models Linking: I can link more than two models internally, but viewers can only see two at a time right now. Edit Permissions: Anyone in my organization (with access) can create and edit linked models once the feature is enabled. Applications: Tracking progress over time (construction, remodels, renovations). Comparing before and after (move-in / move-out, damage / restoration). Comparing space configurations (furnished vs. unfurnished, staged vs. unstaged). Visualizing event setups (trade shows, conferences, social events). Feature Limitations and Status This is currently in private beta, and access is through a sign-up / early access program. Even though I can link more than two models internally, only two can be shared to external viewers at once. Some screenshots, illustrations, or documentation may be slightly outdated since it’s being updated quickly. There are known issues and limitations listed in the official documentation I linked (not included here). Practical Example I Highlighted One of the best real-world uses (in my opinion) is construction and remodeling. I scan the site before remodeling begins to capture details like MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) before the walls get closed up. Then I scan again later, for example after sheetrock or drywall goes in. With side-by-side mode, I can reference what’s hidden behind the walls later, which can help with maintenance, repairs, or future renovations. Additional Notes I think this feature has big potential across multiple industries. If you’ve got questions or ideas for use cases, drop them in the comments. If this was helpful, please share the video. I also included a link to the official Matterport article for more details (not included here). Timeline of Key Points 00:00 - 00:58 | I introduce the new Matterport side-by-side comparison feature I found in Settings 00:59 - 01:58 | I explain what it does: synced navigation and linking multiple models 01:59 - 02:59 | I cover beta status, current limitations, and example use cases (construction and staging) 02:59 - 03:32 | I share my personal construction scanning use case and encourage engagement Core Concepts Side-by-Side Comparison Feature: lets me explore multiple 3D models with synchronized navigation. Model Alignment: models need to be aligned to the same coordinate system to link properly. Private Beta: early access program where users can test and help improve it. Use Cases: construction progress, restoration, staging and configuration comparisons, event setups. Keywords Matterport Side-by-side comparison 3D model synchronization Construction scanning Before and after comparison Private beta Model alignment Showcase feature Conclusion Overall, I see this new Matterport side-by-side comparison tool as a big step forward for anyone who needs to compare the same space over time or across different setups. Even with the current beta limitations, it’s already useful for construction, real estate staging, and event planning. And if you get early access, you can help shape where this feature goes next. |

| Looks like a useful feature! Thanks for the video. Can definitely see the uses for this in terms of construction and also for clients showcasing their work when doing interior designs. Could it also be useful for spaces where they have multiple layouts, like conference spaces? Capture with different layoutds and then use that to showcase variety of spaces? Have signed up so hopefully will get answers to these soon! | ||

| @carlvisualeyes You're Welcome... This is a great new feature, probably the best since "merge" here are some more use cases for side by side comparisons... PROPERTY + REAL ESTATE 1. Before/after renovation (kitchen/bath, tenant improvements) — prove what changed. 2. Make-ready / turnover proof — document unit condition before move-out vs after repairs. 3. Damage disputes — security deposit, landlord/tenant arguments, “it was already like that.” 4. Staging impact — staged vs unstaged to show value, layout, flow. 5. Capital improvements tracking — roofs, HVAC, flooring, paint across multiple phases. 6. Insurance underwriting — pre-loss baseline vs post-loss repairs (clean, fast evidence). 7. Claims + restoration — water/fire/mold: pre-mitigation vs post-mitigation vs rebuild. 8. Appraisals / valuation support — document condition changes over time. FACILITIES + OPERATIONS 9) Facilities maintenance verification — “work completed” proof (before/after ticket close). 10) Vendor accountability — cleaning crews, painters, landscapers, remediation teams. 11) Preventive maintenance snapshots — quarterly/annual baseline comparisons to spot drift. 12) Space planning / churn — office reconfigurations, desk layout changes, meeting rooms. 13) Move management — before move, after move, and “where stuff ended up.” SAFETY + COMPLIANCE 14) Safety audits — hazards identified vs hazards fixed (trip hazards, blocked exits, signage). 15) Code compliance — fire lanes, extinguishers, egress paths, ADA adjustments over time. 16) Risk assessments — warehouses, kitchens, job sites: show corrective actions clearly. 17) Training — “bad setup” vs “correct setup” walkthroughs for new staff. INDUSTRIAL + TECHNICAL SPACES 18) Manufacturing line changes — equipment moved, guarding added, workflow optimized. 19) Warehouse racking changes — capacity changes, aisle widths, pick-path improvements. 20) Server rooms / IT closets — rack changes, cable management, cooling improvements. 21) Lab / cleanroom readiness — pre-cert vs post-cert, layout and cleanliness standards. RETAIL + CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE 22) Merchandising resets — planogram change, endcaps, seasonal displays (prove execution). 23) Brand standards audits — “off-standard” vs “now matches the playbook.” HOSPITALITY + PUBLIC SPACES 24) Room standardization — “model room” vs “actual room” (consistency across locations). 25) Event venue setups — ceremony layout vs reception layout, or “plan vs reality.” Can you think of more? |
