| My take on this: First: Both platforms have been acquired by listing portals - Matterport by Costar and iGuide by the Australian REA Group. And both are now being fully integrated, with a much stronger focus on the listings business and property marketing in the future. I see, that the original digital twin ambitions are history and that marketing is now the focus. Next: Both platforms require cloud processing, re-processing, and with Matterport, a strict "cloud lock-in" on their systems. This means that by uploading captured materials, users and their clients lose direct control over their data on both platforms. You must trust them, that they really delete, when you want them to delete and not just put a marker named "Not Deleted" in the column "Deleted Status".  This means: For most digital twin applications where privacy is a top priority, this lack of control makes them unsuitable. I expect privacy standards to get even stricter in the future as AI ramps up. To sum it up: For management-focused digital twins, these platforms are irrelevant going forward. For listings and marketing, yes — they have a future. But the digital twin train left the station with the recent takeover. Other platforms will take that place going forward. |
