| WGAN-TV | Prestige Property Media's Dave Avilla on Fotello Versus AutoHDR Versus Imagen Versus His DIY | Guest: Prestige Property Media Founder Dave Avilla | Wednesday, 3 September 2025 | Episode: 264 ===================================================================== 1. 24 Sets of Example Images courtesy of Dave Avilla: AutoHDR | Fotello | Imagen | DIY 2. Scoring Matrix courtesy of Dave Avilla (pdf, .xlsx) ===================================================================== Summary of AI Editing Comparisons Last Week: Fotello, AutoHDR, Imagen AI Here’s a quick summary as an alternative to watching the one-hour video interview (above) from [3 September 2025] or scanning through the transcript. I set out to find out for myself if current AI editing platforms could deliver a quality product that could replace my own HDR and flambient editing. I noted three major areas of the editing process: accurate geometry, realistic color cast rendering, and saturated window pulls. The three platforms I compared are AutoHDR, Fotello, and Imagen AI. In addition to the three major areas above, I considered other aspects of the editing process and assigned them a lower value in the ranking scores I recorded on a spreadsheet. The scoring spreadsheet or PDF are available in the Dropbox folder in this link. Also, displayed as a JPG at the bottom of this post. The scores at the end of the comparison were: #1 Fotello 73 points, #2 AutoHDR 66 points #3 Imagen AI 42 points Fotello delivered edited photos that earned high scores in the three major areas of geometry, color cast rendering, and window pulls. AutoHDR was close behind in these areas but their photos were noticeably lacking accuracy in the color cast renderings and pop in the window pulls. Imagen AI consistently delivered sub-standard edits – not usable without time-consuming intervention. The other weighted areas of comparison that I addressed were the potential improvements of delivery speed and the cost factors associated with using the platforms. Speed - Fotello’s edits were available within less than five minutes after uploading my bracket sets (which is dependent upon your internet upload speeds). AutoHDR took about 30 minutes to return their edits (they say that it’s going to drop to 5 minutes in the next release). Costs - The three companies offer different style subscription plans. Fotello’s "Startup Program" batch purchase option (which is not readily visible on their site yet, click here for the details), provides 10 listing edits for $200, usable for up to six months. That sets the price at $20 per listing (or combined listings in one batch) for up to 60 photos. The per listing price drops with volume. AutoHDR’s entry level pay-as-you-go price comes in at $28.50 per month for up to 50 photos, then $.57 per photo for top-ups. Imagen AI’s per-photo costs are in the 5-10 cents range depending upon the services like HDR, sky replacement, etc. That low price is impressive and intriguing, but the product isn’t usable yet. (Imagen has been focused until recently on the wedding photography market where their suite of features is focused. They are spooling up their offering for the real estate market.) This segment of the photo editing market is developing quickly. The results that the AI companies deliver are based upon how they train their AI models. Leap frogging of functionality is likely to occur. Financial capital is necessary to run the machine training, so there is the potential for a big player to jump in and change the playing field. I plan to revisit AutoHDR and Imagen AI periodically (using their free trial credits) to run a few photos through for comparison. The following six photos are two sets of photos that the three companies delivered recently. There is a larger collection of 25 sets at this link. It really helps to scan through comparative sets with different lighting, colors, room size, etc. I think you will see pretty clearly the differences in the quality of the editing that is being delivered by the three companies, particularly in the areas of the control of color casts and the quality of the window pulls. | @Dataventurer Much thanks for this summary of AI Editing Comparisons: Fotello, AutoHDR, Imagen. And, thank you for being my guest on WGAN-TV Live at 5 (above) to show and tell about your comparison of the results. I could imagine that your WGAN-TV Podcast episode - and summary above - will save We Get Around Network Forum community members hours of research about using AI for editing real estate photos. On behalf of the WGAN community, much much thanks for doing the hours of research and then presenting the results (and your scoring system). Best, Dan |
