Do you know of any media explaining benefits a pre-drywall matterport scan?20946

vrephoto private msg quote post Address this user
Does anyone know of any good existing media (video or website) that succinctly explains the benefits of a matterport scan (pro3) during the pre-drywall or rough in stage of construction?

I want to share this with some local contractors and home builders because I could use some help explaining the benefits and optional add ons in a way that appeals to builders and contractors.

I have a couple custom builder’s that will do matterport prior to drywall for more precise wiring and plumbing locations

These are typically high dollar custom homes not production homes

@vrephoto My suggestion, offer them a demo on one of their jobs.. that might make more of an impact than showing them video from another provider.

@vrephoto

Is this video (above) helpful?

It is from the WGAN Forum discussion:

=> Video: Why a home builder uses a Matterport Pro2 before drywall stage

Are you shooting homes for home builders, multi-family home developers or general contractors of homes for marketing purposes?

Pitch scanning before drywall, as explained in this video (above).

Well, I can sync these two models next to each other and we can point the camera at finish walls, and we basically have x-ray vision. I know where every pipe and wire is to the millimeter, no, but I know what bay it's in and that's all that matters for my level of work.

So we can avoid unintended damage before it ever becomes a thing. And having that ability to virtually step forward and backward through time is so, I mean, I know it from being in the industry, but when customers ask a question and I put that in front of them, they're just like, oh my God, having this data is just, it's incredible.

[Anthony Carrino]

What I talked about initially was the first part of my workflow because the second part of my workflow is very much a virtual tour. But the interesting thing now that I am so comfortable with Matterport and bring it with me everywhere I scan a job, I have the as purchased, I have the post demolition, I have the post rough construction, and then I have a finished model.

So for those who aren't familiar, there's the [SIMLAB] STAGES project, excuse me, stages product where you can put a finished model and a rough construction model next to each other and they move in sync with each other.

So I have a customer that two, three years down the line, maybe two, three years is too short, but they want to do some kind of renovation where they have a repair to do, where they need to know what's in a wall.

[Amir Frank]

So this is what we're looking at. This is STAGES.

[Anthony Carrino]

So this is what we're looking at. This is stages. Speaker 4 (18:26): Yeah. So we're actually looking at my home. This is obviously on the right, my finished model, this was post demolition on the left, but if I click over to Rough Construction, then you're going to be able to see all the framing, the rock wall and the walls, and then depending on what side of the wall we're on, you'll be able to see the pecs and the PVC. I've got all my radiant heat, so you're able to see absolutely everything. I'm going to pop over to the bathroom just so you can see valves.

[Amir Frank]

So during the scanning process, Anthony, it looks like you almost have the identical scan position.

[Anthony Carrino]

Is that something you might just be dumb luck because this product didn't even exist when I scanned this home, I actually, through you guys, I gave all these models to the [SIMLAB] STAGES guys so they could use it to make sure everything was working. You do not need to have the same scan points. What you do when you set this up is you grab an X, Y, and Z point within the model and you do the same X, same Y, and same Z in both models. And then it does its technology magic stuff, and it all just works.

[Amir Frank]

It snaps it in. And if you go to one scan position that isn't perfectly aligned with another one in the other model, it finds the closest match.

[Anthony Carrino]

So these look similar, but they're different. Here's a perfect example. I don't have one right here on the finished model, but it still puts me in the same spot in the finished model. Pretty great stuff.

[Amir Frank]

That's awesome. Yeah, that's really cool.
