Simlab stages for Museums?20921

Hi all,
I have a client who's museum I have scanned a couple of times, and they are about to make changes again to one of the floors. They are asking if each Matterport scan could be easily accessible in a timeline fashion, to track the changes in exhibits / renovations etc, and I wondered about SIMLAB Stages.

The Museum is part of an institution with Enterprise Matterport account, all scans are held behind a secure single sign on access.
Is SIMLAB owned by Matterport now, or a third party service that can be used as an overlay with Matterport scans?

If Simlab is owned by Matterport, I imagine the data is secure ofr the long term, but otherwise I'm not sure that the Institution could allow use of a third party service.

Has anyone used SIMLAB stages in this way for a Museum or similar situation?
I could see that it's preferable to just using deep link tags to jump between scans, but perhaps it's overkill for the use case?
Any advice welcomed, on this or other ways to centralize / manage a timeline series of scans, thank you.

Hi @noddy, your project as described would be an ideal use case for SIMLAB STAGES. I have some experience with SimLab and would be happy to get on a call with you over the weekend.

Hi @Noddy,

Simlab – the team behind Stages and Sim-On – is an independent outfit and is not owned by Matterport, although they enjoy strong support and close integration with Matterport’s platform.

We recently employed Stages at the Shackleton Museum in Athy, Co. Kildare – Ireland’s National Museum dedicated to Sir Ernest Shackleton. As the museum approached the final stages of a refurbishment exceeding €5 million, we captured Matterport scans before any works began and then at key milestones throughout the project. Using Stages’ timeline feature, we were able to present side-by-side comparisons of each phase, making it effortless for stakeholders to see how exhibits and spaces evolved over time.

You can explore the museum’s virtual tour and read about our workflow here:

Our experience with Simlab has been excellent. If you’d like to discuss your use case or see a demo, I recommend getting in touch with their team:

Hope this helps – good luck with your client’s timeline of scans!
