Did anyone see the announcement today about the Planix R1?

Curious to hear your thoughts… From what I read the Theta X has a 1/2" sensor as compared to the 1" on the Theta Z1… wondering how that will affect shooting in low light situations…

I’m a bit bummed that it still only has 2D lidar and not 3D lidar.

Is the lidar on the Planix R1 any improvement on the Planix Pro? more accurate?

The product doesn't ship until mid-November. Will the R1 be the subject of one of your excellent videos?

I, too, was disappointed that it still only has 2D LIDAR, and now that you mention the difference in sensors, I'm concerned about low-light capability. Someone posted a comment that the Theta X is already outdated. I spoke to a sales rep at iGuide who indicated the accuracy of the LIDAR has been "improved."

Besides the smaller, "more rugged" form factor, the most noticeable improvement is in scan speed: 5 seconds! But you still have to account for the time to hide yourself from the scan! Yes, you can still do "one-sided" scans, but from what I understood from the rep, there is a bit of a compromise in overall quality using that technique.

At the risk of showing some ignorance here, I'm not sure how "live mapping," thanks to SLAM technology, helps the workflow. From what I understand, it helps with situational awareness while scanning. Is that a problem that needs solving? I believe SLAM is used in high-end 3D scanners to create 3D virtual models Seems a waste to implement it in a 2D scanner, but I assume it provides more accurate data for iGuide's drafters.

Someone described the R1 as 1.1 evolution, not a 2.0. Can't say I disagree.

@ScanYourSpace @OrangeHill but for the price I see this as a good option. I also like the new design. I was not a big fan of old design. It only being 2D LiDAR again for the price I think it’s good option. I would like to see some side to side comparison of both in low light to see if it is a big difference. Unfortunately I will not be buying one so I won’t be running any testing. But would also like to see both iguide side by side and run along side Matterport and Realsee.
