How to print a physical 3D model of a Matterport digital twin?19680

I know this subject was raised a number of years ago but has anyone yet truly mastered the ability to successfully convert a scan into a 3D printer ready file? I am looking for someone to provide this service to us as a customer add-on (we would get a local provider to actually complete the print just need someone who can create the proper file for us)

Hi,
I haven't actually done it yet but I quoted a client who asked recently and I decided when doing that the safest way would be to convert the point cloud to BIM and then create the STL file from that.

The problem is with all the extra labour involved it turns out to cost the same as having a conventional architectural model made only with the bonus that the client gets a Matterport scan and a BIM model in the package.

The whole purpose of BIM is to replace conventional modelling methods so to use BIM to do something it was made to replace is not going to be cost effective. But as you say it would be a nice add-on to have.

Separately I am working on using an object scanner and 3D printer to replicate items to make molds for casting (highly hand detailed Japanese sweets). The scanner I used is Revopoint. The noise that appears in the detail requires a lot of work to remove and must be removed before printing.

I hope this helps!
