What height do you set your tripod? Please include actual measurements.

This will help Bushman place laser lines in the tripod legs and vertical pole.

Other features you would like to see in a tripod for the Matterport camera?

Thanks,

Dan

So Dan, Are you now saying we should switch to a bushman tripod? I just ordered the other Manfrotto one but have not opened it yet.

@judysmithre

I continue to recommend the Manfrotto MT190XPR04 Section Tripod ($220) on our Matterport Essential Shopping List of 19-Items.

I still need to evaluate the AMARULA Bushman Panoramic tripod ($222) to see how it compares.

I am always evaluating Matterport gear and accessories for MUG Forum Members. Thus, checking out the Bushman tripod at IVRPA from the Founder and CEO the company.

If Bushman adds laser markings on their aluminum tripod, that would be a very compelling product differentiator. Plus, I do like that the Bushman folds to a smaller form factor for traveling.

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan,

I am currently working with this tripod. It is very lightweight, portable and flexible.

For me the main-challenge in working with this tripod in connection with a matterport camera is, that you have to setup the tripod very accurately, making sure that all legs are fully expanded.

And you have to make sure, that the legs are properly fixed with this "twist-leg-fixing" mechanism. Otherwise it may happen that one of the legs looses stability and the tripod is getting instable as a whole. In such a case this tripod looses 1 cm or 2 cm in height in one leg and you will have trouble in finding out, which one of the 12 "twisters" is unstable.

A bushman-tripod with "click-leg-fixing" instead of "twisting-leg-fixing" would be perfect for us.

Best,
Florian

Thank you for your insight and detailed notes about the Bushman tripod. I am still at IVRPA and will ask the Bushman founder about "click-leg fixing" rather than "twisting-leg-fixing" ...

I recommend the Desmond DLEV-1 Leveler Level on a tripod to level so that leveling is done with the Demond DLEV-1 rather than by adjusting the height of the tripod legs.

Hi Florian,

I spoke with the Founder of Bushman this morning.

He let me know that you should not have any slippage between legs when you tighten the rings. If you are experiencing slippage, he would like to replace your tripod (PM for me to connect you).

Can you confirm that you have slippage?

I checked the demo unit and it seems to tighten rock-solid.

Hi Dan,

thank you and thanks to Gerald Blondy. The Bushman tripod works fine for me. I just had to learn to work with the tripod. It works perfectly for me.

I am also working with the leveler that you recommend. In Germany it is shipping under the name "FIRST2SAVVV XJPJ-YTSP-A01G10". See here on the German Amazon

https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B015R2WEV8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But it seems to me to be the same product as the Desmond Leveler

See you next year at IVRPA.

Best
Florian

@MeshImages

Great! Glad to hear that the Bushman is working as expected.

Gerald speaks at IVRPA tomorrow, Friday. I will live blog his sessions in this thread.

And, yes, that's the same leveler

Yes. See you at the next IVRPA.

Dan

For Ricoh Theta + mono pole, you can run the cable through the tripod ... plus, when you place the Theta on the pole, you can still plug in the Theta
