@DanSmigrod Wait... 10 minutes? This definitely requires some elaboration. E.g. How do 360 snapshots occur during movement? Is this completely automated without trigger control from an app?(Look Mom, No Hands!). On the surface of it, this appears to be a game-changer.

@Shakoure

Yes. Cupix beats Matterport is speed-of-capture.

Cupix uses Photogrammetry (and Videogrammetry) - versus Matterport's structured light (Pro2) and LiDAR (Pro2).

Please see this WGAN Forum discussion:

How is Structured Light [Matterport] different from Photogrammetry [Cupix]?

In the Cupix video, they are using a 360 camera paired with the Cupix app and are either taking a 360 photo every X seconds or shooting 360 video.

As I recall, Cupix says the accuracy of its photogrammetry method is as good as Matterport's structured light method for capturing spatial data.

Both Cupix and Matterport provide spatial data digital twins, BUT each company has a difference approach regarding how they achieve the same result.

The BIG ADVANTAGE of Cupix - particularly in weekly construction documentation - is the speed of capture (and the much lower cost of capture because the biggest expense in capture is the LABOR).

Matterport's two greatest weaknesses in the AEC space - such as construction documentation - are:

1. speed of capture
2. cost of capture (labor)

Does that help?

Best,

Dan

P.S. Unlike the Matterport camera (Pro2 and Pro3) that spins, a 360 1-click camera can snap 360s while you are moving.

There was an open-source project that would do this from 360 video using photogrammetry and SLAM (VSLAM).

Dan, I am pretty sure they are capturing 360 video and post process it. It just won't make sense to use 360 photos.

People can try to do it with Zypher 3D
Even their free version allows to strip videos and even 360 videos into frames and process them for photogrammetry. That's how it should work based on these feature description. However 50 frames for video is nothing to be honest, you should then split each 360 frame into cube faces and only after that it can build a model. 50 images limit for free use, 6 cube faces. If you want to use all 6 sides you can only process about 8 frames.

Video: Powered by Cupix: Create an Indoor Orthomosaic Image of 40K sqft Office Building from 360 Video Walk | Video courtesy of Cupix YouTube Channel | 8 December 2022

From the Cupix YouTube Channel

Making Indoor Orthomosaic Images Easier Than Ever Before

Picture this: you can create an orthomosaic indoor floor or ceiling map in just minutes of a 360 video walk. We're here to make that a reality with our Neural 3D Engine. This new feature will leverage our point cloud to create geo-referenced and dimension measurement-ready indoor maps—all with just a few clicks of a button.

To demonstrate this capability, we took two 10-min long 360 video shots (one for indoors, one for outdoors) using an Insta360 ONE X2 camera for a 40K sqft office building in San Jose, CA. We then created a top-down ortho view of the generated point cloud, which could be overlaid on a real-world map. This process will be automated and straightforward.

Stay tuned! This powerful tool will be available soon.

@Wingman

Based on the video above and video description, looks like you nailed it: "360 video and post process it"
