Matterport Android Capture app Beta: how to with 3rd party 360s?17027

I was just wondering if anyone has used the feature in the Android capture app of building a tour from third party 360-degree panoramic photos?

If so, could you share the model and their thoughts going this route.

Yes, I did a couple of times.

I used a virtual gallery space from the 3D vista marketplace, created a Virtual Staging in Photoshop and uploaded the 13 panoramas via android capture to Matterport. Be careful on a classic plan, because it will cost you something like 29 USD for a small space (even if you have the credits).

Original panoramas were 12K, but Matterport downsized them to 8k. Take a look.

@MeshImages... Interesting. But, how is this processed since MP requires at least one 3D scan for a model to upload for cloud processing from the Capture app, including Android.

@Shakoure the Matterport android app does not require a 3D scan. You can upload only 360 panoramas, render them to 3D and build a model as long as the panos have a visible connection and are in max 5 meter (10-15ft) distance.

@MeshImages ...Yes, that was initially my thought as I recall from a previous upload from some time ago. What I realized with this most recent upload, as you said, is that some of the panoramas were too distant, so thanks for that pointer. Thanks.

@MeshImages Thank you for your input, nice tour and I am on the classic plan so thank you for the info, the workflow and thoughts. I may try it out using a DSLR to see what the final product looks like. My original goal was to keep it high resolution, but it sounds like they reduce the pano size.

@MeshImages

Wow! What an AWESOME workflow (example) for creating a Matterport tour from 360s: not originally shot and uploaded directly to Matterport.

Can you list your use-cases for this workflow?

I see at least two, based on your example:

1. virtual staging
2. editing Matterport 360s (e.g. remove the Matterport camera from a mirror) - only works using Android Capture
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
8.
9.
10.

Best,

Dan

@DanSmigrod There is many use cases and applications for this workflow.

3. You can create walkable 3D redendered spaces for real estate - for promotion or also for AEC (with MP Notes)

4. You can upload your 360 images and then create a dollhouse where you can take measurements

5. you can create any imaginable 3D world and bring it into Matterport.

and probably many, many more use cases.
