I'm in the process of assembling some images into a booklet (digital) and they make great case studies and marketing materials but I am in need of a "in-design" person to help me create a file I can work with while I slowly learn what I need to know - but first is to get a file template I can work with. Any one have that kind of go to person they are willing to share I'd appreciate it.

My recommendations are:
YouTube tutorials
Lynda.com (now LinkedIn Education I think)

InDesign is really a layout tool aimed at publishing books and magazines. It is not a word processing tool. It really works best to put your text in Wordpad or something similar.

It is not a simple program to learn and looking back I'm not sure how I managed to figure it out. I'm functional in it, but do not consider myself an expert despite having over 60 books in print that were pre-press with InDesign.

Illustrator is another parallel dimension that I personally find to be an exercise in aggravation. It excels at typography and graphic design with vector graphics.

You may find it faster to use Corel Draw or MS-Publisher. Corel is my go-to for flyers and small things like business cards. It's reasonably intuitive to use, there are tons of tutorials on YouTube.
My only real gripe is that color management in Corel is weak, so using a PDF from Corel in an Adobe product can sometimes result in wacky color output. I try to design around this.

Publisher is Word on steroids....

Word has some decent capabilities for small publications. It just lacks the finesse that you get with InDesign.
