minimap broken, please help15096

Hey everyone,

We did went to scan a vessel this week and had a lot of problems with it.

Finally we had to delete part of 2 of the floors, lets say, we deleted the back of the vessel in 2 of the floors were causing all the problems because we scan them in different days and they had been moving things around and these 2 floors kept collapsing together.

So we erased nearly more than half of both floors and repeated the scans. This is not the first time we do something like this, but it is the first time we get a result like this. Minimap got completelly broken in one of the floors, see screenshots.

When we were scanning one of the squares moved ( not the first time in other tours) but today, when I went to reupload the model I see the minimap just like screenshot so I am not able to put cutting marks or anything on in.

Result of the upload is again collapsing 2 floors but now different ones, the one in the screenshot collapsed with the one below.

Any idea why this has happened and why the minimap is so screwed.

Thanks a lot

@mina86

Welcome to the WGAN Forum.

90 percent of solving a problem is understanding the scope of the problem.

I am confused.

Can you describe the problem a different way?

Can you record a video of the problem and narrate?

Can you embed the tour here using a deep link so we can see the problem in the tour?

It is Friday night - 7 pm EDT - so please be patience for the WGAN Community to weigh-in.

In the mean time, did you open a ticket with Matterport Support?

Best,

Dan

Hi Dan and everybody.

Sorry I had no conection during the weekend and I could not reply.

I have done a video showing all the decks in the vessel and how they look in the capture app.

https://youtu.be/1qwZ8LRHdNA

Here is the link to the tour

You will see that in the app there are 6 decks and in the model only 5.

Problem is that deck 1 and deck 2 have merged into one deck and in the app, deck 2 is completelly broken, the scan points are in their place but the deck background is broken in those big squares, and it wasn't like that during the scan.

I need to understand why this has happened, we have done several vessels like this one and never had any problem like this.

I'll try to explain what we did. We scanned deck 0, deck 1 and deck 2 the same day and we returned to continue with deck 3, two days later. Problem was that when we scanned deck 3 we realized that they had moved big pieces of equipment around, but we continued scanning, result was that the model was merging deck 2 and 3 in some areas, just some scan points. We assumed that the problem was the equipment that was moved, because from deck 3 the camera could see deck 2 so we thought it had gone a bit crazy and not measuring right.

As we wanted this job to be as best as possible, we returned to the vessel and deleted all the back (exterior) of deck 2 and deck 3 and scanned again. During the scanning, it looked perfect on the app and we thought we had solved all problems but when we uploaded the model we found what you see and when I opened the capture app I found deck 2 layout all broken.

Hope anyone can throw some light into this. I am sending Matterport support a ticket right now. I just wanted to have some idea as support most of the time takes days to reply.

Thanks a million.

@mina86

Thanks for the deep-dive details. I will be back in the office later today.

In the mean time, hopefully, other WGAN Members can review your details and post a reply.

Best,

Dan

Did you try the repair scan option in Matterport capture?

Concerning the final product not having the desired number of floors, this is a common issue since the floors are generated by matterport and they do not represent the floors that you create in capture. I'm not exactly sure if there's anything you can do here but I'm curious to know what support tells you.

Hi, thanks for the replies, I have an update. I sent a ticket to matterport support and then called them. They said that I should know that they support only 200 scans per model, anything bigger could bring problems. That was on the phone, and the lady said they would investigate further. Then I've got an email saying that this was a misalignment problem and they will try to align manually and we should wait 3 or 4 days.

No idea, for me a misalignment does not explain that in the app one of the decks got so broken. We have had misalignments before and never had this problem. I am pretty sure all the scans in these 2 decks we repeated are in the right place as infact we were repeating the damn thing and I checked every scan. So no idea. Matterport explanation is not really great for me as I have no idea how to avoid this in the future, so if anybody has any other possible reason, I would highly appreciate it.

Oh, and yes I did try the repair tool in the app, twice! and no change.

Thanks to all.
