We did a test yesterday and scanned the same aircraft (a Chinook helicopter) with a MP Pro2 and GeoCV. What do you think?

@Tosolini having been inside and jumped out of a few of these I must say both are good.

GeoCv - great UI with minmap in view and brighter inside.

Matterport - more real. It is darker inside in reality. Better dollhouse too. And also the ability to walk around the chasis exterior.

On this occasion:

GeoCV - 0
Matterport - 1

Both fantastic examples to help aircraft familiarisation. Great work Paul!

@Tosolini Great job. I need to find something unusual to scan. Both look great, but if I had to pick one, I would agree with Angus...I like the deeper colors of the Matterport scan.

Not really apples vs. apples considering you didn't scan the exterior with GeoCV. However, I'll agree that in this case the MP scan colors feel more realistic. But let me clarify "real" - I've never ridden in nor jumped out of one of these, and I'm happy for that. Hats off to our brave service people who have, whether in training or combat.

@tosolini Both look nice.
I´m not sure but if I look at the shadows in the cockpit seem to be more sun in the GeoCV scan.
Where are the faults?

@Tosolini

Wow! You are ALWAYS doing cool stuff.

I seeing the Chinook helicopter in Matterport versus GeoCV.

Your tours are likely the only way that I will "fly" in a Chinook helicopter.

Can you share your technique for camera height? Looks like you went to great length - to get great heights for the dollhouse view.

What were your top three challenges shooting with each platform?

Best,

Dan

Thanks for sharing the screen grabs. Close up with 3D/360 always seems challenging regarding stitching errors.

@dansmigrod I treated the exterior of the Chinok like a normal scan, but I lowered the tripod inside and collapsed it in the cockpit. The main challenges where lighting (inside and outside), and stability of the camera when spinning over the pilot seat.

The GeoCV 12K panos are very crisp. Check them out here:

MP model seems that had the advantage to be shooted while the helicopter was in complete shadow. Geocv was done with sun entering into the cabin.
Anyway great work Paolo!!
