I'm pretty sure they are using the lidar device in conjunction with it for enhanced measurements. It's far more accurate than my iPhone 7+. Admittedly the 7+ is getting old, but it still works. I think just using the video feature without real time 3D might be valuable to some customers. This way the loading time would not be an issue.
