Question of the day...

What NEW offerings are you bringing to your clients in 2026?

For my real estate media business, one of my “new for 2026” add-ons is black-and-white coloring pages made from the actual homes we photograph. Agents have been loving it, especially for families and open houses.

What are you adding this year?

@TomSparks colouring pages. That’s so cute. Are they for the kids to play with while the parents talk with the agent?

For me, 360 video for virtual tours. I have my first project lined up for May.

Also object scanning for replication. I did a test run with a prototype maker last year and we scanned and replicated a fine detail Japanese cake. I scanned and the prototype maker made a mould using a 3D printer. It’s kind of hard to understand what I mean so see the pics below:

@Meidansha thanks, yes, originally it was for the agents to hand out to families with kids, but agents said they wouldn't want to include crayons at the listings, didn't want kids drawing on the walls, here's an example

@TomSparks that’s really good! I’d never have thought of doing that for making a colouring book.

How do the agents use them if they can’t give the kids crayons?

@Meidansha Thanks, from what I've been told the agents just hand them out for the families to take with them.

Thanks for the hint @TomSparks !

I just tried with a pic I took for a homebuilder a few years back.

Here is the method I used on Affinity:

Replicating Canny Steps in Affinity Photo 2

To mimic the Canny algorithm's noise reduction and precise thresholding:
Prep: Duplicate your layer. Convert to Grayscale if necessary (Adjustments > Black and White).
Noise Reduction: Apply a small Gaussian Blur (Filters > Blur > Gaussian Blur) to reduce noise.
Edge Detection: Apply the Detect Edges filter.
Thresholding (Hysteresis): Use a Curves adjustment to aggressively clamp values, essentially creating a "high threshold" to keep only the strongest edges and a "low threshold" to discard noise.
Refinement: Use the Erase Brush or a Mask to remove any remaining unwanted artifacts.

I must note that the Canny Algorithm is on a black background so as a last step you have to invert the background image by using the hot key "ctrl i" when the background layer is selected.

@TomSparks Wow, super cool outside-the-box idea! Love how it turned it out!

@Meidansha If you can share, what type of project are you using the 360 video in? Will it be included as part of a virtual tour or more stand-alone?

Also, any plans to implement the scanning for physical replication into your business at some point? If so, have you given much thought to specific applications or client types you might target?

As far as new service offerings for our business, we recently had a client ask for some virtual decluttering (for photos) on a few properties with really messy interiors and were really happy with how they turned out. We've also been starting to play around with the gaussian splats and delving into where/how they'll fit in moving forward.

Hi @JamesG

Have you got any pics of the decluttering?

I'm also playing with 3DGS. However, I havent found a cost effective and fast way to make them yet.

The 360 video project is for a Philosophy Institute. The founder of the association passed away 100 years ago this year so they want an immersive experience of the retreat where he spent his last days and wrote his last thesis.

I have done a lot of 360 video for fun and even helped an industrial plant maintenace company make 360 video and tours of the inside of industrial furnaces for inspection purposes before. However I have never used a 360 video camera for a professional production of a virtual tour before.

I am going to buy a used Insta360 Pro2 for better performance in darker rooms etc.

The physical replication business has started with the example I shared. The prototype maker and myself hope to get work replicating antiques and making moulds for patisseries etc. We are not sure about industrial products and other such things as we are concerned about infringing on patents etc. However, it would be good to find a workshop that would outsource the prototype making process to us through this.

@Meidansha Thanks for sharing about the upcoming project with the Philosophy Institute, sounds really interesting. Would love to see the finished product if/when you'd care to share. Have never worked with 360 video before myself.

And cool use cases for the physical replication business!

Having some issues uploading the declutter pics, but will try again in a bit.
