Screen Grab: Asteroom App

Hi All,

"Asteroom is the easiest way to create 3D virtual tours. A 2000 sq ft home can be completed in 10-15 minutes. Unlike other time-consuming solutions that require you buy expensive and bulky 3D cameras, Asteroom allows you to do everything including shooting, editing, and sharing the tours on your phone. Asteroom was founded in 2018 in Taiwan. In a short amount of time, it has been voted the best technology to help Realtors, builders, photographers, and interior designers to streamline their existing workflows and unlock the new business potentials," says Asteroom.

Let's find out more.

On Thursday, 23 July 2020 on WGAN-TV Live at 5, Asteroom Founder and CEO Eric Tsai will give me a deep-dive demo of the Asteroom 360º tour platform:

WGAN-TV Live at 5: Introduction to Asteroom by Asteroom Founder & CEO Eric Tsai

✓ How does Asteroom compare to Matterport? (including the Asteroom 3D Dollhouse Add On feature)
✓ How does Asteroom compare to other 360 virtual tour platforms?
✓ What problem Asteroom solves better than other platforms?
Asteroom Pano Kit versus shooting with a 360 Camera?
Asteroom pano retouching Add On service

✓ What's coming soon from Asteroom
✓ Asteroom pricing

Plus, we'll find out why Asteroom was honored with:

✓ HousingWire's Tech 100 in 2020

What questions would you like me to ask Eric?

Best,

Dan

TheRealDeal (19 July 2020) How long can this leading virtual tour player stay on top?

Five Asteroom specific excerpts from this lengthy article by TheRealDeal Reporter Erin Hudson

--

"Fremont, California-based Asteroom, a company that stitches together 360-degree photographs to create virtual tours, was striking up new partnerships and selling 100 camera kits and subscriptions a day before running out of stock in mid-April, for example."'

"Asteroom is one of the handful of newer startups in the space. Founded by Eric Tsai in 2018, the company has raised $1.5 million and its business plan, like that of many others, is focused on undercutting Matterport on cost and speed."

"Asteroom charges as little as $20 per month, and $60 for up to 10 users. Matterport’s new app costs $10 per month, a professional subscription about $70 and a business subscription for 20 users $310. Before Matterport launched its app, customers had to use a special camera."

"Tsai noted that putting together a 360 tour with Asteroom is less time-intensive than with a Matterport model. Asteroom requires one photo per room, while Matterport requires scans every six feet for its software to produce a 3D model of the space."

'“I believe virtual tours are supposed to be inexpensive and easy,” Tsai said. Though he admitted Matterport’s scanning and software produce a higher image quality, he argued that it is often lost on consumers."

'“The end product is mostly the same,” he said. “Most people can’t tell.”'

WGAN-TV: Introduction to Asteroom with Founder & CEO Eric Tsai | 23 July 2020

Video: Best Practices for Shooting A 3D Virtual Tour with Asteroom | Video courtesy of Asteroom YouTube Chanel | 23 June 2020

Hi All,

Asteroom Founder and CEO @EricTsai gives us a deep-dive intro - including demo - of the Asteroom virtual tour platform in this WGAN-TV show (above).

Highlights include:

✓ how to (easily) shoot an Asteroom virtual tour (examples) of a 2,500 SQ FT listing in 15-20 minutes with a Ricoh Theta Z1 360 camera (compared to 1-2 hours with Matterport) and thus be able to affordably shoot Asteroom virtual tours for houses for sale in the $250,000 (NAR reports medium home price of $284,600 in May 2020.)
Asteroom Pay Per Tour (PPT) Special Pricing for WGAN Members (nicely loaded).

- No monthly subscription
- create the virtual tour with up to 30 360 photo spheres (likely sufficient for 90 percent of listings)
- create the dollhouse view
- professionally edit the 360 panoramas
- 6 months of hosting
- (additional 6 months hosting available for $15)
- (additional 360 photo spheres may be added to the tour for $1.50 each)
- $60 one-time payment

Asteroom Pay Per Tour (PPT) Special Pricing for WGAN Members (nicely loaded) is good through 31 July 2021 and then subject to change.

Either join the free WGAN Forum (free) to receive the COUPON CODE or Private Message me (@DanSmigrod) with the subject line: Asteroom Pay Per Tour Pricing for WGAN Members

✓ Coming soon

- virtual staging (presently in public beta)
- 2D schematic floor plans

✓ Asteroom pairs nicely with WP3D Models, Show & Tour, Rela and other solutions for creating single property websites (branded, unbranded)

Best,

Dan

P.S. @EricTsai thank you for being my guest on WGAN-TV Live at 5 and thank you for the special Pay Per Tour pricing for WGAN Members

He stated he is building a service for consumers, agents, brokers and tour specialists. Is there a white label version available so I don't have to market his service to my clients? All the samples shown on their site show the Asteroom logo in the bottom right corner of the tour. Also, can these tours be virtually hosted on my sub domain with masked links like threesixtytours can with an added dns CNAME record redirect? If they offer white labeling they would gain a leg up on Eyespy360 which includes similar doll house navigation.

Thanks,

Glenn

@glennf35 - thanks for your feedback. Logo was actually something that Dan and I didn't touch on yesterday. We are actually experimenting with different idea, including making the Asteroom logo a lot less prominent as well as co-branding. Some changes will be made in our next update which is scheduled to be release on next Monday, and we will continue to take in users' feedback to reiterate.

Our goal is to make it a win win for everyone by creating an ecosystem for consumers, agents, photographers, and brokerages.

@glennf35

Since Asteroom offers iFrame, you could use:

WP3D Models WordPress Plugin
Show & Tour
RELA
✓ Other Single Property Website solutions that integrate iFrame

Using one of these Single Property Website solutions essentially masks the URL.

Does that help?

If the client is looking for a single property website those would work. But if the agent wants to iframe on their own site, or are limited to just adding a link on the mls to the tour then the non branded links look like [this].

These tours would have a prominent branding logo on them just like Matterport is on every tour too. Cobranding would still brand them to my client. From what I have read here that worked out well for Matterport but not so much for the folks who bought the hardware, found the client and created the tour.

@glennf35 Like I said we are experimenting different ways to change the current branding and allow more of your branding. More updates to come.

One advantage for cobranding is that we are planning on and hoping to refer agents that do not want to create a tour themselves to you. We won't be able to do that unless you are an Asteroom service provider.

Asteroom has no intention to become a service provider. We will always be a product company. We are not going to call up your clients and ask them to buy a rotator and create tours themselves. It's unethical and also does no good to us financially. We make no margin on the rotators anyway.

Maybe you can help fill me in on why the Matterport branding part didn't work out so well for folks here.

I think others here might be better positioned to explain their reasons why branding of Matterport on their tour services helped or hindered them. It sounds like initially it might have helped, then things changed when the company took a new approach.

I just want to build a client base that will not be tempted to easily replace my services with software and training from the company who's logo is directly branded on their tour and url. I like what I saw in your video and appreciate the feature set you're developing. Thanks for considering my concerns.
