| @AnjumDesign FARO makes one, Leica makes one. I used the FARO and it was ok but 1st generation and was not going to pay that amount of money for it. The Leica I tested at trade shows but also very expensive. If you’re talking about the hand held Slam lidars, Tosolini just tested one. I also think Realsee produces one. |

| Hi @AnjumDesign, My expertise is in Matterport, but I have a colleague who specialises in SLAM scanners. These LiDAR scanners allow you to walk through a site with a handheld device and capture a 3D point cloud of the environment. They also geolocate the scan data using very sophisticated algorithms. These devices have been around for some time, but the very high cost has put them out of the reach of most smaller operators. The entry-level models are intended for smaller, indoor projects, while the mid-range and above will cope with large projects easily. The model I've seen in use is the FJD Triton 2, which is an astonishing piece of kit. They can be hand-held, mounted on a vehicle, or attached to a suitable drone. This technology has matured very rapidly lately and is now a mainstream offering. SLAM units are not a replacement for Matterport, for example, but another technology that complements the whole digitalisation of the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) sectors. | I know at least three new SLAM scanners priced up to US$4000-5000 and even more under $10000-15000 I myself own 3DMakerPro Eagle MAX SLAM scanner with RTK which is based on Livox mid-360 lidar and majority of SLAM scanners under $5000 are using the same lidar. This guy is fantastic with testing all of them and giving his opinion on each. Just watch his videos for the last 12-18 months and you will see all of them. |
