In today’s world of instant communication, responsiveness matters more than ever. Whether it’s a new client inquiry, a past client reaching out again, or even a potential referral from another professional — a quick response can make all the difference. Last week I reached out to another photographer with a referral opportunity. Several days later… still no response. Now, maybe they were busy. Maybe they weren’t interested. And that’s totally okay. But here’s the thing: even a quick “Thanks for thinking of me, but I’ll have to pass” is still a positive response. A fast reply shows professionalism, respect for the person reaching out, and appreciation for the opportunity — even if it isn’t the right fit. In business, opportunities often move quickly. A delayed response can mean a missed connection, a lost referral, or a client who simply moves on. Personally, I always try to respond as quickly as possible — even if it’s just to acknowledge the message and follow up later. Because every inquiry represents someone who took the time to reach out. And that deserves a response.

@lilnitsch Couldn't agree more. I have won more than my fair share of work over the years by being responsive even "after hours" to web inquiries, emails, etc. I quick thoughtful response - even if it's "I'll have to think about that and get back to you" - respects the asker and shows that I value them as a potential client / partner / whatever. And, studies show that the time it takes to respond to a web inquiry DRASTICALLY affects the conversion of that lead - after waiting more than an hour to respond, don't even bother....you've lost them. Great topic and an even better reminder to me to keep up a core value. Keith

@Chemistrydoc My voicemail actually mentions that the fastest way to reach me is by text or email. Since I’m often inside a client’s home photographing, I don’t answer calls during shoots out of respect for the homeowners. Text or email usually gets a much quicker response from me.
