Hello, Have any of you ever created a new Matterport tour by importing a set of 360 pictures, from an Insta360 X5 camera? I have a client with 77 x 360 pictures that would like me to use to create a Matterport tour, but I have no experience with this as I only use Matterport Pro cameras normally. Is it easy, or would this be a nightmare? I found one document from Matterport that does describe the steps, linked here: https://support.matterport.com/s/article/Import-360-Spherical-Images?language=en_US Would be nice to know if someone else has done it successfully, and how long might it take? Thank you for any advice! |

Try the first 7 and you will find out, that it is a nightmare. It took me more than 1 hour to upload and align 12 images. Much slower than scanning on site.

@Noddy I have, in the past it was hit or miss, it has work ok in a few cases when I have worked with an existing model, I have had little success with starting from scratch but that was over a year ago. But I do got to say I downloaded four Z1 photos in an existing model last week and they registered just as fast as if I was running a scanner, I was surprised.

This has me thinking Isn't there a solution other than matterport that has the same motion feel from one point to another, similar dollhouse and floorplan with point of interest like others? Is that around AND you own the data? I've been out of it for a while so excuse me if this is common knowledge

agreed I have done a few but never thought of it to put everything in it. I have 23 3dvista projects in it but will look at it more where it is 100% in it. Thanks

@MeshImages @GlennTremain there is a guy I have been following, I stopped for a while I got to look him up but he does the scans in Realsee, downloads the GLB files then manually builds the dollhouse but the graphics are far better. I believe it’s a 3Dvista final product. I will see if I can find his link.

In small rooms one photo in the middle of it should be enough to do it. And if you have experience working with it it may take very little time. However it is just for building a 3D model of an empty room. When you get to modeling furniture and some fixed features it would be as hard as 3D model them from scratch. This is one of tutorials and it is not even using any addon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrZiSwXoBVA KrPano has ability to do it from 360 photos but it is again through Blender Add-on and it is built the same way as for standalone addons. However krpano browser player is hard to use on slow PCs. Unless it is a very small model it will freeze everything on your PC even before you see a tour build with it in your browser. This is an addon that does similar job it for krpano. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2hk0FLNqYo |

I have forgotten that there are some Cad addons for blender and even ones that can let you use a flat floor plan and model from it. Plus if you own ipad/iphone pro you can use Polycam app or similar. Do not expect them to let you scan the whole house though. They will start producing bad results after scanning even a small space unless it is not furnished. Room scanning that comes in these apps can help you create a simple house layout in 3D as long as there is no slanted ceiling, curved walls or bay windows. However as with IOS lidar scanning under these apps the longer you scan the more problematic it becomes. |
